M-Group Facilitator

 

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in social service, health education, public health or related field and one year of community health education experience OR high school diploma and two years in community health or comparable experience. Thorough knowledge of HIV/AIDS and STD, its mode of transmission, prevention, and influential factors in health behavior. Excellent oral and written communications skills in English and Spanish. Knowledge of the social, health and political barriers faced by Young Latino Gay, Bisexual, or same gender loving men because of their sexual orientation, HIV status, or ethnic background. Strong commitment to teamwork among staff. Must be detailed-oriented and have great organizational skills. Clear commitment and cultural sensitivity for serving Young Latino men who have sex with men who may or may not be living with HIV/AIDS

 

Reports to: Assistant Manager of Prevention Services

 

Positions Supervised: None

 

Duties:

     1.      Comply with the MPowerment program’s scope of services as determined by contract with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

     2.      Participate in the design and implementation of M-groups for the MPowerment project according to the guidelines of CDC.

     3.      Recruit Young Latino men for participation in M-groups.

     4.      Maintaining contact (written and verbal) with participants to ensure attendance with program events.

     5.      Developing and adapting materials to be utilized during the delivery of groups for the MPowerment project.

     6.      Assist in all formative research efforts needed by the program; including, conducting needs’ and community assessments and facilitating focus groups

     7.      Maintain records of group activities, client behavior, and referrals to be submitted to Data Specialist/Assistant Manager of Prevention who will submit the information to the Prevention Evaluation Monitoring System (PEMS).

     8.      Coordinate health education sessions with Health Educator according to the needs of clients.

     9.      Attend Project staff meetings.

     10.  Assist in community advisory board meetings.

     11.  Assist in the preparation of required program reports including the synthesis of program statistics and compiling program information to the Assistant Manager of Prevention Services.

     12.  Prepare and submit Weekly Schedules and required reports in a timely manner.

     13.  Comply with agency and CDC training requirements.

     14.  Participate in agency staff meetings as well as other meetings required CDC.

     15.  Maintain appropriate demeanor towards co-workers, visitors, clients, supervisors and all others.

     16.  Participate in fulfilling CARF requirements.

     17.  Adhere to and enforce agency safety procedures.  Assist in the evacuation of all program participants during a fire drill, tornado drill or other civil emergency drills according to the department evacuation plan.

     18.  Participate in improvement activities using the total quality management structure.

     19.  Normal work hours are 40 hours per week. However, must maintain a flexible working profile while performing job duties.  This will include, on occasion, rearranging breaks and lunch periods to meet the needs of the participants and/or scheduled work activities.
