Residential Attendant
QUALIFICATIONS: High School
diploma or equivalent; one year direct service with children who have
developmental disabilities. Must be able to perform lifting/transferring of
the residents as described below.
Must be 21 years of age.
Must pass DCFS background check according to current requirements.
DUTIES:
Provide supervision and
instruction in self-help skills including but not limited to toileting,
grooming and feeding per residential care plan
Provide diapering, and
toileting assistance/instruction in accordance with the Privacy and Dignity
Policy of Anixter Center; Perform diapering duties in the time frames set by
Perform duties utilizing
guidelines/policy regarding infection control
Maintain hygiene including but
not limited to showering and grooming in accordance with agency Privacy and
Dignity Policy.
Alert medical staff with
concerns about the general health of the residents so they may monitor
factors such as weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, etc.
Assist with feeding of
residents under the direction of Occupational Therapist and/or
Speech/Language Pathologist.
Assist with the proper
positioning of residents under the direction of Physical Therapist and/or
Occupational Therapist
Assist in transferring of
residents to and from wheelchair, floor, toilet, chair, changing table or
bed under the direction of the Physical Therapist or Occupational Therapist
Maintain wheelchair condition
through both spot cleaning and thorough washing
Provide supervision of
residents as directed
Provide supervision and
instruction during meals and assist in meal set-up and clean-up; Assist in
meal preparation as directed
Provide environmental
stimulation to residents including but not limited to sensory stimulation,
attending community trips, positioning, verbal interaction, appropriate
physical contact
Develop and/or select
instructional/hygiene materials for group home and maintain inventory of
supplies
Maintain supply of activity
items, toys, etc. informing management of needs in a timely manner
Develop individual
habilitation plan for all residents on caseload and assist in the
development of activity and self-help goals for other residents as directed
Provide input toward the
development of individualized behavior management plans and implement these
plans as needed. This may
require use of physical management techniques approved for use by
Attend staffing or other
resident-related meetings and actively contribute as a member of the program
team in the development and delivery of services to all residents
Encourage
parent/guardian/school staff involvement in residential programming, making
and documenting contacts as directed by supervisor
Collect and compile data
regarding toileting, behavior and skill development following required
schedules and utilizing all current residential data collection and
recording formats
Assist in the development of
field trips, special events and community outings.
Assist in transportation to and from these events by riding bus,
helping residents on and off the bus and assisting residents in and out of
their home
Participate in the intake
process of prospective residents by interacting with those residents and
giving input to the staff team regarding the appropriateness of those
residents for the group home
Perform duties required to
maintain a safe environment, including but not limited to:
Provide crisis intervention,
including but not limited to the use of hands-on physical management
techniques approved by Anixter Center, administration of First Aid and/or
CPR, calling paramedics, transporting residents to health care facility and
remaining with them until medical decision is rendered and transportation
home is arranged, notifying supervisor and parents/guardians/residential
facilities and completing related paperwork as required.
Maintain current first aid and
CPR certification
Complete all required
paperwork in a thorough and timely manner
Provide a model of appropriate
dress and behavior for residents
Maintain a neat and orderly
living space at all times; clean and disinfect
programming/feeding/hygiene materials as necessary
Provide assistance in minor
repair / upkeep of program equipment and maintaining the facility /
children’s clothing / toys / equipment and premises in a clean and orderly
manner.
Assist in the purchase and
maintenance of residents’ personal items including but not limited to
clothing, hygiene products, toys, orthotics.
Complete / submit any required
driving training / documentation.
Drive residents in agency van to medical appointments, community
outings, etc.
Participate actively in
in-service training as required; complete all mandatory training in the time
frames required by
Be mindful of quality issues
as they relate to the position and program;
participate in activities to improve program quality as needed.
