Alex Degillo assembles a Kernel Season’s product in Anixter Center’s Packaging Service. One of three Anixter Center businesses (Imaging and Janitorial are the others), Packaging provides work for people with disabilities while offering high-quality assembly services to area businesses.

Ruby Jointer likes the friendly work atmosphere at Anixter Center’s Packaging Service. Brian Taylor likes the friendly customer service. That positive energy helps fuel Anixter Center’s programming.

One of three Anixter Center businesses (Imaging and Janitorial are the others), Packaging provides work for people with disabilities while offering high-quality assembly services to area businesses. The businesses generated $2.3 million in fiscal year 2002.

Ruby has worked in Packaging for two years.

“I love it here,” Ruby said. “Everybody’s so nice to us. It’s wonderful for people with disabilities.”

Brian is president and founder of Kernel Season’s, a Highland Park-based popcorn seasoning company that also produces sno-cone and cotton candy kits for children. Brian heard about Anixter Center Packaging from a business contact.

“It’s been fantastic,” Brian said. “The level of service has been phenomenal.”

Kernel Season’s order supplies work for 20 people with disabilities. The steady work and job training encourage individuals to live independently in the community.

“Working here has brought me a long way,” Ruby said. “It’s good to have something to do.

Brian is looking forward to more business with Packaging in the future.

“The quality of the packaging has been impeccable,” Brian said. “We’re very happy. It’s nice to know that we’re providing opportunities for people to get work.”
