Beverly Otey, Dan Daley’s widow, sits at the video relay service station in the Dan Daley Communication Center. Beverly is the director of Anixter Center’s Training Institute.

More than 50 family, friends and co-workers gathered at 2032 North Clybourn Avenue on July
11 to commemorate the life of Dan Daley, a former Anixter Center employee who died in 2003. The ceremony included the unveiling of the Dan Daley Communication Center, an area where people who are deaf or hard of hearing can utilize a video relay service to make telephone calls.

“Dan was continually advocating for people who
are deaf or hard of hearing,” says Anixter Center Vice President of Program Services Carol Woodworth. “The communication center is
something Dan would have been behind.”

A plaque next to the entrance to the communication center recalls Dan’s dedication to the people Anixter Center serves. Dan was manager of vocational enhancement and transportation in the Community Resources and Support Program.

“With his caring spirit and passion for helping individuals who were deaf or hard of hearing to live independent lives,” it reads, “Dan Daley will be remembered for his courageous ability to ‘fight the good fight’ and for an unwavering commitment to Anixter Center’s mission and the people it serves. His life is worthy of celebration.”
