Corporate Partnerships

One way Anixter Center is able to achieve our mission of helping people with disabilities live, learn work and play in the community is through corporate partnerships. Corporate partnerships support many of our programs and services, ultimately benefiting clients and staff in countless ways.

We have had the honor of working with Comcast, which is just one of our many partners, throughout multiple aspects of our organization.

Comcast has helped us develop our Industrial Services Program, by providing consistent work for up to 200 Anixter Center clients at one time. Partnering with Comcast started about 15 years ago, when we received the opportunity to assemble informational bags that Comcast would use for advertising purposes.

After years of assembling the bags, Comcast presented us with a larger opportunity to add to our work program. The expansion of duties included some of our clients cleaning and refurbishing old remotes, making sure they work properly and then repackaging them. Other clients began sorting through all of the adapters and bundling them neatly. After the adapters are all bundled up, our clients label and package them to be sent back to Comcast.

Comcast has supported Anixter Center in other ways as well. We have Comcast cable, internet and phones installed at all of our 13 CILAs and our seven HUD Homes. Recently, a couple of our Anixter Center locations have switched over to Comcast's Fiber Optics Network, providing our clients and employees with high-quality Internet at a much higher speed. Fiber benefits our programs overall, but specifically it creates a clear connection for Interpretive Services who rely on high-quality video conversations over the Internet in order to communicate.

After partnering with Anixter Center for our 4th annual Benefit for Ability, Comcast Director of Government Relations for the Greater Chicago Region, Lisa Ouzounian, became further involved by joining our board of directors.

Working with Comcast has made a huge impact in the lives of our clients. Some of the clients here at Anixter Center were never employed before starting our work program. Being in the work program has given each individual the opportunity to gain confidence in themselves, while learning new skills with the goal of transitioning to employment in the community. We are excited to continue building a future for our clients and developing new relationships.

From volunteer days to strategic consultations to donations of goods and services, corporate partnerships such as this are more important than ever to ensure Anixter Center and its divisions—Chicago Hearing Society and Lekotek—are able to support the more than 8,000 people we serve every year.
