“Police Training: Communicating Successfully with Deaf Individuals”
A daylong seminar, in two portions, will focus on practical applications for law enforcement professionals in DuPage County . The event is sponsored by Chicago Hearing Society ( www.chicagohearingsociety.org). The training will be held in conjunction with the DuPage Center for Independent Living.
The morning session will cover Deaf culture basics, tips for successful communications, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and reading of the Miranda Act. Role playing exercises will enact domestic violence incidents, speeding, traffic accidents and more. The afternoon session will highlight basic “survival signs” (sign language). |
