Anixter Center staff and clients will be protesting Gov. Blagojevich’s proposed cut of $10 million to community providers who serve people with disabilities with a rally in the Lincoln Park neighborhood.
The proposed budget cuts will further deprive people with disabilities of crucial state-funded services. Illinois continues to regress in the rehabilitation field. The state plans to use the $10 million to reopen the antiquated Lincoln Developmental Center , an institution that “warehouses” individuals with disabilities. Already underfunded, community providers in Illinois are on the brink of implosion.
SPOKESPEOPLE: Individuals with disabilities will be available to speak to reporters about how proposed budget cuts threaten their day-to-day quality of life.
