CHICAGO (October 30, 2003) – Anixter Center presented the Lester and Rosalie Anixter Spirit of Life Award to Dr. David McLone of Children’s Memorial Hospital at the human service agency’s 24th Annual Awards Luncheon on October 24 at Hilton Chicago and Towers. Dr. McLone was honored for his lifelong dedication to treating people with spina bifida. Dr. McLone and his team have performed hundreds of operations shortly after birth to repair the open spines common to severe cases of spina bifida. Anixter Center and Dr. McLone are working closely to develop plans for Anixter Village, a transitional residence for young adults with spina bifida.
“Because of Dr. McLone’s work, many people who previously would not have survived are now flourishing,” Anixter Center President and CEO Stuart G. Ferst says. “Dr. McLone never gives up on a baby born with spina bifida.”
The luncheon honored individuals and businesses who have made a positive impact on people with disabilities in the Chicago area. Anixter Center annually serves 4,000 people with disabilities through 70 programs at 35 locations.
“We could not have fulfilled the mission of Anixter Village without your assistance,” Dr. McLone says. “We understand the importance of our interdependence.”
