State Representative Lee Daniels is honored with Legislator of the Year Award

CHICAGO (December 2, 2003) – Anixter Center presented its Legislator of the Year Award to State Rep. Lee Daniels (R-46) at the human service agency’s 24th Annual Awards Luncheon on October 24 at Hilton Chicago and Towers. Rep. Daniels has been a lifelong advocate for state funding for people with disabilities and a leader in establishing the House Developmental Disabilities and Mental Illness Committee, which he now chairs. As community providers faced a $10 million state budget cut this spring, Rep. Daniels advocated strongly on behalf of people with disabilities and helped reverse the cut and add a Cost of Doing Business increase.

“During this past spring’s budget sessions, Representative Daniels gave several impassioned speeches that helped move our budget forward,” Stuart G. Ferst, President and CEO of Anixter Center, said. “Because of our champions like Representative Daniels, individuals with disabilities have a powerful voice.”

The luncheon honored individuals and businesses that have made a positive impact on people with disabilities in the Chicago area. Anixter Center annually serves 4,000 people with disabilities through 70 programs at 35 locations.

“On behalf of my colleagues in the house, we want you to know we care, we want to do more, and we will do more,” Rep. Daniels said. “Thank you for allowing us to be your voice in some of the most important matters that face Illinois .”
