CHICAGO (March 12, 2003) — Sun-Times sports columnist Rick Telander joined more than 20 adults with disabilities on February 25 for a discussion of his novel “String Music” at Anixter Center’s Literacy Program at 2032 North Clybourn Avenue. Mr. Telander — along with several Anixter Center program participants — read excerpts of the book. Many Anixter Center clients currently are reading “String Music,” and they greatly enjoyed hearing it read in the author’s voice. Mr. Telander opened the floor to questions at the end of the session, giving these sports fans a chance to talk about the Bears, Cubs and Bulls with one of their favorite columnists.
“Whenever I see reading and writing going on it pleases me,” Telander said. “I try to get involved in literacy and reading programs as much as I can fit it in.”
